In a month's time, the first Knit+Wine baby will be born in Brooklyn. This is the first pregnancy in our group and it's been wonderful to watch the process (and pore over baby knit patterns too). To celebrate, a small group of the most active Knit+Wine members came together (in spite of Nemo's gift of several inches of snow earlier that morning) for a lovely baby shower brunch at Dino in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
You already got a peek at the hot pink baby hat I made, but I wanted to share a few shots of the finished product along with the "animal parade" of banana sour cream cupcakes with peanut butter cream cheese frosting that I made fresh that morning (the recipe is from my beloved, and now defunct, Gourmet magazine). Banana and peanut butter is hands-down one of my favorite combinations. Really, anything with peanut butter (chocolate, toast, ice cream, a spoon) is my favorite combination. So when I learned that our guest of honor shared my love for banana & peanut butter, I was over the moon. An excuse, at long last, to make these cupcakes again.
Almost every single gift at the shower was hand-knit - each one more beautiful and more lovely than the next. These are some talented women. It was so inspiring to have a special occasion for us to gather together and celebrate one of our members as she embarks onto motherhood for the first time, armed with adorable baby booties, sweaters, blankets and hats. This will be one well-attired baby girl.
